House Painting

House Painting

No one notices a good house painting job, but everyone notices a bad house painting job! This applies to the outside of your home as well as the walls inside. [Where do those scuff marks come from anyway?]

Perhaps you've never thought about it that way, but it's true. Plus, the house in the neighborhood with the bad paint job is bringing down the value of ALL the houses in your neighborhood. You don't want your place to be THAT house!

Of course you're capable of painting your house. But do you really want to? It takes time. Prep time. Painting time. Clean up time. There's only one of you so it'll take longer. Do you want to take time off work to do this BIG chore? That's not my idea of a vacation.

Our professional painters provide quality craftsmanship from painstaking preparation through purposeful paint application and an eye toward finishing details. When you need to repaint your walls, ceilings, the entire house or even the garage, you can rely on St Paul Handyman to get the job done in a professional and efficient manner.

Interior House Painting
Our prep work includes repairing nail holes, joins and similar imperfections where necessary. We'll apply putty and sand the surface. We'll take the electrical outlets off the wall, drape protective clothes over your furniture and tape around the windows. We'll wash the walls before painting to ensure the paint will adhere to the walls evenly and smoothly.

We'll supply the drop cloths and rollers and brushes. We'll pick up the paint; the color of your choice -- of course. And when the job is finished, we'll clean up and dispose of the tools used. All of this is done to ensure that the final finish makes room "sing", looks beautiful and lasts a long time.

The walls on the inside of your home reflect your personality When picking colors for interior home painting, think about the mood you want in each room. Experts call this "mood psychology."

  • Soft, cool and neutral colors are best to create a restful and soothing atmosphere.
  • Strong colors scream drama!
  • Warm, contrasting colors that lean to the brighter side create a sociable atmosphere while deeper blues and greens are used to create a formal room.
  • Intense, bright hues stimulate energy.

Not only is color selection is important, but so is the paint finish. We recommend mildew-resist paint for high-humidity rooms like bathrooms. Washable, flat paint is best to hide smudges and dings, like a child's bedroom or playroom. You might also want to consider painting one of the walls in your child's bedroom with a chalkboard paint or whiteboard paint. These specialized paints turn the entire wall into a chalkboard or whiteboard. No longer will you have to fuss at a child for writing on the wall!

Exterior House Painting
Repainting the exterior of your home can literally make it look like you bought or built a completely different home. We know… it sounds like we’re exaggerating. Until we’re done. And then our customers are like… “Whoa, where you’d put my old home?… Wait, never mind… let’s leave it wherever you put it.”

Not only will it look better, it will add tremendous value to your home, especially if you're preparing to sell it. When the appraiser comes to appraise your home, the value will definitely be reduced if you have chipped or cracked paint. Faded paint doesn't serve you well either. But it isn't only the appraiser that will judge the value of your home based on the exterior house painting. So will prospective buyers.

 As one
remodeling expert advises realtors, "According to research done by NYU, people make judgment calls within the first seven seconds. That means they may hate your client’s home before they ever see the remodeled kitchen or hardwood flooring. Curb appeal is critical. If your client wants to grab that first impression and make it a good one, they will need to pay attention to their home's exterior." Other than the landscaping, nothing is more apparent in curb appeal than the exterior house painting.

What about color choices?
Did you know that a small house will look bigger if it's painted a light color? And a "McMansion" will look more proportional on a small lot if it is painted a dark color.

Windows are an architectural detail that provide character to your home. Paint them a complementary color to "outline" them and add visual interest to your home's exterior. Shutters also provide a canvas to accentuate. Contrast this with your gutters. They are necessary but not very visually interesting, so we recommend the gutters be painted the same color as the house to blend in rather than standing out.

Don't pick a color that drastically conflicts with your neighbors' house colors. It will make their house AND yours look bad.

If you are painting your house for the purpose of selling it, drive around new housing developments to see what colors the new home builders are using. Those home builders have invested significant research funds to determine the best selling home colors. Use that knowledge to your advantage and select one of those color palettes to showcase your home.

Paint Touch Ups
Perhaps your house, or even a room, doesn't need a completely new paint job. Maybe you just have several spots that need "touching up." Give us a call. We'll be happy to take care of those paint touch ups for you.
